Course overview:

Vibration Assessment training course, to be delivered as customised in-company programme nationwide in Ireland, including Dublin, Cork, Limerick and Galway is designed to increase the knowledge of vibration problems.

Mechanical vibrations at work can expose workers to hand-arm vibration (HAV) and/or whole-body vibration (WBV). Regular and frequent exposure to hand-arm and whole body vibration can lead to permanent health effects. This is most likely when contact with a vibrating tool or work process is a regular part of a person’s job. The regulations prescribe the measures to be taken to protect employees from the risks arising from vibrations owing to their effects on safety and health, in particular muscular/bone structure, neurological and vascular disorders.

The regulations set what are termed as ‘exposure action values’ i.e. the level of exposure which if exceeded requires specific action to be taken to reduce risk. Also ‘exposure limit values’ which are the levels of daily exposure which must not be exceeded for any employee. An employer must ensure that the risk arising from exposure of his or her employees to noise or vibration is either eliminated at source or reduced to a minimum. Where employees are likely to be exposed at or above a lower action value an employer must make a suitable and appropriate assessment of risk.

Pre – requirement:

Environmental managers, health and safety officers, safety representatives, supervisors and those who wish to increase their understanding of vibration assessments.

At course completion participants will have a full understanding of:

·         The relevant standards and guidelines applying to vibration at work (ISO 5349-1:2001; ISO 5349-2:2001, ISO 2631-1:1997, etc)

·         Vibration measurements including vibration reports

·         Exposure Limits (Exposure Action Value, Exposure Limit Values)

·         Frequency analysis and some vibration control techniques

Note: The above syllabus may change during the training course to provide more detail in aspects, which have been ascertained to be of greater value to the trainee.
